FIM can only synchronize using the regular task scheduler on predefined times.
Using the IM Sequencer you can start synchronization automatically when there is pending data in the FIM or Omada portal or when files are created or modified. It can also start synchronization when files are available on a ftp site or data has changed in sql or ActiveDirectory. Also via external commands for instance a FIM workflow or Omada workflow this altogether gives you great flexibility how and when you want to start synchronization, and provides a real time mechanism for synchronizing data.
The IM Sequencer can still synchronize on predefined times/patterns click
here to find more details how you can start the synchronization.
-
Within FIM you cannot configure any management agent for automatic synchronization.
Using the IM Sequencer you don't have to write any scripts or call in script writers to execute your runprofiles and management agents, all configuration can be done through an easy and user friendly interface, combined with easy wizards and extensive help everybody can configure runprofiles and schedule tasks.
-
Within FIM you can find run statistics, but then you need to logon to the system to view them.
The IM Sequencer generates a very advanced report about every synchronization step you have configured, this includes the full error which is logged within the FIM console, it even combines all the same errors this allows you to quickly view what errors occurred rather than clicking each error manually within the FIM console to see if all the errors are the same. This advanced report can be delivered via e-mail, so your administrators don't even have to log to the FIM console to verify if synchronization succeeds even on their smartphones.
-
Within FIM you cannot schedule your management agents.
The IM Sequencer has an easy overview what is going on, what tasks are running and when the are expected to run again, as an administrator you also have the option to manually start the synchronization. Every synchronization is logged and accessible via advanced reports, you can even configure alerts to get informed as soon as errors occur.
-
What will happen if your HR system delivers and export file that only contain the employees that are joined recently and the synchronization systems runs a Full Import?
Using thresholds you can block the execution when excessive deletes or modifications are detected from a HR connector (management agent), you can also set a maximum number of allowed updates to ActiveDirectory for each export, by setting a percentage or absolute number.
-
FIM is a single instance, you need to log on to every system to see what is happening.
Using the IM Sequencer you easily can control multiple ILM\FIM systems to ensure your identity information is always up to date accross multiple systems.
-
FIM does not have any alerting features which you can use out of the box.
The IM Sequencer will alert you when things are not going as expected (thresholds exceeded, particular management agents are failing, files cannot be found etc.) your administrators are notified via e-mail or information is logged in the eventlog or send via SNMP traps.
-
FIM only executes management agents, all the rest is up to you.
The IM Sequencer has powerfull capabilities, for instance:
- Start single or multiple management agents and check each result and treshold and stop synchronizing if necessary
- Copy, move or download source files from or to other connected systems via windows transfer or FTP(s)
- Start scripts or powershell commands to execute commands or start other processes on local or remote servers
- Upload files to an ftp(s) server
- Execute sql queries or stored procedures to update a sql database
- Send files via e-mail
All information is
reported if something went wrong.
It is easy to combine all of these possibilities in a single task using a simple but effective interface, configure the task when to start using all the trigger possibilities mentioned earlier and this will give you infinite possibilities to get things done

If you cannot answer "Yes" to all these questions, you should start using the IM Sequencer
to protect and real time synchronize your identity information without any difficulties, this will make your work a lot easier and your system more reliable!
